Impact of residual self-interference and direct-link interference on full-duplex relays

Abstract
This paper investigates a full-duplex (FD) wireless network with decode-and-forward (DF) and amplify-and-forward (AF) dual-hop relays. We consider two residual self-interference (RSI) models at the FD relay where interference effect is modeled as either Gaussian noise or as block fading, and their variance can either be independent or dependent on transmit power. We also consider the interference via the direct link. For both relaying protocols, the exact and asymptotic expressions for the outage probability are derived over Rayleigh fading channels with distance-dependent path loss for eight possible cases. Simulation results are provided to verify the analytical results.
